Homeowners can control
energy usage by installing a ceiling fan to promote air circulation. In
the summer, ceiling fan blades should rotate counter-clockwise to
create a “wind-chill” effect by evaporating moisture on the skin. This
can make the room feel several degrees cooler than it really is. In the
winter, clockwise rotating blades force warm air from the ceiling
downward into living space. In both situations, these benefits allow
the homeowner to adjust the thermostat so that heating or air
conditioning runs less, resulting in energy savings.
