Aluminum wiring was
installed in many homes during the 1970s. The switches, receptacles and
other additional devices that were used are not as compatible as was
once thought. This incompatibility produces loose connections that
cause wires to overheat and cause damage at the connections.
Homes with aluminum
wiring can be rewired in copper, though you should expect it to be a
costly and time consuming process. Alternately, aluminum wiring (12
awg or larger) can be made safer without rewiring the entire house using one of two approved methods.
